Big East Signs is a diverse graphics studio located in Warren County, New Jersey. It is atop the first mountain ridge in Harmony, N.J. situated between Phillipsburg and Belvidere at 177 Ridge Road. The view is overlooking the Delaware River and the Lehigh Valley of PA. This is where owner and artist Jeffrey Bunce provides his 23 years of experience in commercial art, fine art and the sign trade. Mr. Bunce was introduced to sign making by his high school art teacher, Leo Charnetski. After graduating Bridgewater-Raritan High School West in 1980, he was working as a junior draftsman for Cahill-Prato-McAneny in Far Hills, N.J. While he was happy there this is when his teacher called and offered a sign painting position at his "Artcraft Signs" business in Raritan, NJ. Jeff responded quickly and learned alot. He moved on to work for with Mike Cigler of Design Associates in Somerville, N.J., this is where he got hooked on the sign trade. However, the desire to learn more about art led him to study at Kutztown University. "This is where I learned extremely important lessons on the thought process in art." He then advanced his learning of the sign trade by attending the oldest and most respected school for sign painting, sign layout and hand lettering, the Butera School of Art in Boston, Mass. After completing studies, a long road trip followed. Sign kit and suitcase packed away in the back of his pickup, he took off on a solo trip out to southern California. " This was a great opportunity for me to learn from several artists. I worked along side with really good sign painters when I was freelancing for some of the top shops in the Long Beach metro area, it was a blast! " This is where he really developed his hand lettering and airbrush skills. |
